This town of approximately 20,000 people consists of 68 square kilometres and is an agriculture-based community located along the western border of the Niagara Peninsula, along the Southern shores of Lake Ontario. The Niagara Escarpment towers over the town, peaking here at its tallest point in the Niagara Region, and providing the southern boundary to the urbanized portion of town, that is bordered on the north by the Lake Ontario shoreline.
Primarily a residential community straddling the bustling Queen Elizabeth Way, the town's commerce is driven by tender fruit farming, wine making and service industries. Its fertile lands grow orchards of tender fruit and grape vineyards. The large-scale expansion of orchards and vineyards in the area resulted in several packing and canning plants. Recently it has attracted a variety of light industries.
The town has had substantial housing growth in recent years. Grimsby is within a short commute to the cities of Hamilton and St. Catharines, and within a one-hour drive of Toronto.
Beamer Memorial Park, atop the Niagara Escarpment, is a renowned hiking and bird-watching area, with a panoramic view of Lake Ontario. There are many parks, sports fields and open spaces and in the Town of Grimsby.
The Festival at the 40 (Forty Mile Creek) in mid-August features wine gardens, barbecue & entertainment.
