When a highly regarded chef and culinary family opens a restaurant with a waterfront view in a small town - you get the best new place to eat. On the Waterfront Restaurant in Port Colborne is one of our best picks to dine this summer. The restaurant boasts a spectacular view of the Port Colborne Marina and Lake Erie, and raises the bar on establishing itself as one of the best restaurant destinations in Niagara. Generally speaking, restaurants are mostly measured by their culinary delights - and if well priced, clean and comfortable yet tantalizing, will be the right mix of ingredients to satisfy locals and visitors respectfully. On the Waterfront Restaurant is all of the aforementioned and more, it’s certainly within the best in its class. The welcome is warm, the décor is delightful and appropriate for its surroundings – not over done and simply transforms an ordinary outing into an extraordinary dining experience. Whether you visit On the Waterfront Restaurant for lunch or dinner, it’s easily good enough to be called a special occasion place regardless of the fact the affordable pricing just might turn you into a regular. The menu offers the precise amount of varied selections that will be sure to satisfy even the most experienced palates – a restaurant experience that promises substance and delivers in a truly substantive way.
The Rinderlin name is not new to Niagara – Emil was once a centerpiece of the fine dining culture in Niagara when he was wowing patrons with his signature dishes at Rinderlin’s in Welland, competing in culinary competitions and even dabbling in a few entrepreneurial endeavors of his own outside of Niagara. Well respected by chefs and restaurateurs alike – there is no denying Emil Rinderlin is a master of his craft. With that being said, then it’s only fitting that much of his knowledge would transcend himself onto others around him along the way – notably his wife Margaret and daughter Caroline. Today, this dynamic mother daughter duo is the driving force of the restaurant, and their passion is evident in everything they do. A dash of ambience combined with good old-fashion hospitality and soon to be Port signature dishes cooked up by Executive Chef de Cuisine David Healy will surely be a successful recipe in their pursuit of perfection.
Among their Dinner entrees, a sampling of the stand-outs among others include Roasted Lamb Loin – Lamb loin with onion garlic mint jus on barley risotto, Roasted Pork Tenderloin – pork tenderloin with a roasted pear chutney & blue cheese & jus or their Fillet of Salmon – Atlantic salmon on a bed of rice with a spicy teriyaki glaze & a cucumber & green onion relish, all of which could be nicely paired with a local or international wine from their selection. Our picks during our visit included the starters; Vegetable Spring Rolls – served on an Asian salad with a sweet & spicy Thai sauce and Lobster & Crab Dip – baked & served with pita chips that were both very nice. The entrée favourite was a Pasta dish that you surely don’t want to miss, Penne with Jumbo Shrimp – penne pasta tossed in garlic tomato butter with jumbo shrimp. Simply stated – great taste!
