Centre for the Arts, Brock Unviersity presents DEE DEE BRIDGEWATER Dee Dee Bridgewater is an award-winning jazz singer, actor and entertainer with extraordinary range and versatility. Having won a coveted Broadway Tony award and two GRAMMYS, Bridgewater can bring music to life in ways that are difficult to imagine until you hear her mind-blowing vocal technique. She is able to scat, soar and moan like none other and brings the dynamic array of her voice to the music of Billie Holiday. Nominated for the Laurence Olivier award for her tour-de-force portrayal of Lady Day in Stephen Stahl’s show about Billie, Bridgewater recorded an album demonstrating her fine understanding and beautiful interpretations of Holiday’s work. Although Bridgewater can do a bang-on impersonation of Holiday, her versions are versatile, dynamic and demonstrate that the best tribute to an artist is to re-interpret their classic songs.
